Class Discussion Reflection for SB 1070
This class discussion was not done as well our first discussion. Although this topic was closer to home than the Muslim mosque controversy, in the beginning we struggled with getting a conversation going. For example, in the beginning we only discussed on the surface issues like racism, ignorance, and what my mother's friend's cousin down in Arizona is feeling. Deeper into this discussion we reached the more under the surface questions much as the constitution being challenged, the corruption in Mexico, and how to effectively change the citizenship process. Unfortunately in the end we accepted that being in the United states illegally is breaking the law. I just recently learned that Cuba is still a communist country, so most Cuban citizens are escaping to the United States seeking refugee. From what i was told America is helping those who make it here. I wish I had known this the day of the discussion to see what my fellow classmates' points of view might have been. The streets of Mexico are being run but drug cartels, and it must be just as difficult to deal with as communism. So why isn't America being more supportive? The way i see it is the head of our country needs to come up with a solution/compromise sooner than later because as they sit there and decide what to do, people are suffering in both countries.
